M.E. is Fashion Forward? Of Course!
Most of us start each new year with one or two (maybe a list!) of things we would like to do differently, habits to break or to form, etc. right? Well M.E. is no different. Along with many other personal and business goals for 2010, the goal to find and stay on the edge of the fashion industry – specifically hair accessories – wiggled it’s way to the top of our list. This is mainly because it’s fun! It gives M.E. license to try out ribbon, fabric, textures, patterns that we might have initially overlooked. It gives M.E. the excuse to combine these different supplies in ways that we probably wouldn’t have had the courage to try.
So with Valentine’s Day a great time to fall in love with different things, we are following several Fashion Bloggers known for their abilities to predict fashion trends. While I realize that these trends are primarily referring to clothes – I think accessories should follow the same path, don’t you? Clippies are appearing in places other than childrens hair – we are seeing them in womens hair, clipped to a sweater or added to a purse. Hair accessories aren’t just for little girls. So here are a few quotes from fashion bloggers who inspired our newest selection of Clippies.
Jen Lula from jenloveskev.com said “It’s all about taking risks, having fun and staying confident in what you come up with!”
Christina Marie from secondskinstyle.blogspot.com said "I think this will be the year of the ‘Personal Style’ and individual expression. Everyone is experimenting with off-the-wall elements like petticoats, mixing prints, tights and leggings (in every color shape and texture) and accessories that show the human hand’s involvement. (emphasis added)
Jenni from dailyworkit.com said “2009 saw the beginning of mixing prints, but in 2010 I predict the trend will take off. I love the look and think it is a spunky way to show off your creativity with fashion.”
Julie O’Boyle from orchidgrey.blogspot.com said “I’m seeing a lot of pattern mixing going on already and I expect this trend to really take off in 2010. From simple pairings like polka dots and stripes to the hyper mix of paisley and floral, I think mismatched patterns add great texture to any outfit.” (emphasis added)
Certainly, the clippies we make at AAM are not going to be seen on the international fashion runway, but hopefully you will see from the pictures below that it can be fun to mix and match patterns and colors, that grouping multiple clippies together can create a fresh new look, and it’s okay to be different. I had a wonderful afternoon with my beautiful friend as she allowed me to raid her closet (because she has an amazing wardrobe!) looking for interesting, yet appealing combinations that embodied the spirit of the fashion bloggers who so inspired me to put together clippie creations that took me out of the box. Have Fun!!
Green & Pink
This first combination shows the same color palette using different patterns. The pink and green clippies combine sequins and zebra print with horizontal stripes in the cotton tee.

Leopard & Asian Flower
This combination shows how animal print can be paired with a floral print. The dark pink flower on velvet clippie brings out the flowers in the skirt and the earthy tones of the cardigan and skirt go well together.

Pink, Yellow & Red
These three colors are beautiful together when worn correctly. The mustard yellow tee and the pink knit cardigan are pulled together perfectly by a beautiful bird-patterned skirt. The crocheted flower clippies in ivory, pink and red complement the ensemble and the red clippie pulls the red flower elements from the skirt.

Yellow Stripes & Black Zebra
Black and white striped clippie, black and white zebra print daisy clip (attached to handbag) and black and white zebra print heels are all brought together by the yellow and white striped hoody and black skinny jeans.

I whole-heartedly agree. Although my mixing and matching began with scrapbooking, mixing textures, prints and colors that I’d never imagine possible on a page, I love the way each of these clippies adds just the right touch, pops out each color and accents the outfit in just the right way. Who knew something so simple could have such a dramatic effect! Way to go. :) :)
