It's The Small Things

As I’m working tonight, as most nights after the kids are sleeping, my mind wanders and I get to spend some quiet time reflecting on the day’s activities, or thinking about what tomorrow will be like. I am gluing ribbon onto clip, choosing the perfect red, white & blue flower (getting ready for Fourth of July) and finally applying the velcro (or more accurately “hook and loop fastener”) to the clip. My fingers are doing what they are supposed to do without much thought from me – pretty much automatic at this stage of the clippie design. Because I am using a blue ribbon, I chose a blue hook and loop fastener… I think it’s the small things that are important. I want a fastener that matches the ribbon.

Up to this point, I have been buying Velcro-brand fasteners at Joann or Michael’s and paying about $2.29 for 12”. The colors are pretty neutral – black, tan, navy, red. Of course, I also buy a lot of black & white. I think it’s expensive considering the amount that I go through in a month. Recently, I was delighted to find a Joann brand of fastener at a much lower price – only $0.99 for 24”... and the colors! Pink, green, blue, red, tan, white, black.

As I finished up another set of Fourth of July clippies, these with red ribbon and matching red hook and loop fastener – I have a great sense of satisfaction when two important things come together – matching details at a low price.

It’s the small things that make me happy!
