Crazy for Velvet

Okay… before I start my rant on velvet, I am going to write a disclaimer. I am not a writer. I resisted even DOING a blog on my site, but my web designer (Melody at Sublime Artistry) insists that it’s good for business. I can hardly see how a poorly written rant on velvet (or anything else for that matter) will bolster my clippie sales, but I do what I’m told – and I trust her. So I apologize for the following disjointed, grammatically-incorrect article. Please forgive my dangling prepositions and all-around mismatched thoughts. Whatever – it’s Melody’s fault.

I enjoy velvet.
Looks so good on a clippie.
Just not white velvet.

Thought a Haiku might get me warmed up. So here’s the deal… and to get you to read to the end, I’ll tell you there will be a way for you to earn some money.

I think velvet looks terrific on a clippie. It is unfortunate that the lighter velvets (white and pink, especially) show the glue where it connects to the clip. I use a glue gun to apply hot glue to the pinch clip and then wrap a pre-cut piece of ribbon around the clip. The darker velvets hide the glue (as do most grosgrain ribbons), but the on the light-colored velvets, the glue shows through… darkening the ribbon where it attaches to the clip. I cannot possibly sell a clippie with dark patches where there shouldn’t be! I think it looks HORRIBLE. I have tried other types of adhesives from Elmer’s Glue, E6000, G-S Hypo Cement to Super Glue and anything I can think of. I have asked other crafters. I’m coming up empty. I’m frustrated. I have a bunch of sweet, soft pink velvet that I must turn into… something! And the finished product must measure up to my standards.

So! If anyone would like to experiment on their own… or can find out from the all-knowing, Super-Crafter… I will pay $25.00 for the answer. It must be out there.

Best,

Julie

Would you please show me what you are talking about…I am a visual person. Do your photo just like the ones you do so well. Put it on this page so we can see.
Thanks,

Yes, the perfect glue that does NOT darken the velvet… got any ideas? I’m not kidding about the $25 :)

You’re wanting an idea for which you can use your velvet instead of a clippie, or you’re wanting the perfect glue that doesn’t darken the velvet?
